Intelligent Building Solutions
Convergentz was born out of a need for Building System Integration Solutions and Internet Protocol (IP) based control systems. As early as 2005, Hunton Services started to notice that Chief Engineers were, increasingly, losing control of their facilities. What they also observed was a (Competitors and Customers) Customers wanted to move their control platforms into the IP World. After getting tired of losing projects to small “Open” control shops in town, they had to find a way to compete using IP technology. “As this was a new direction in the market, away from the portfolio of control product technology that we had within the Hunton Group at that time, we created Convergentz,” says Richard Hunton, Jr., the CEO of The Hunton Group, the founder and president of Convergentz. He has always been a true visionary and instilled the same vision in the company. Convergentz was ahead of the Internet of Things (IoT), starting when it was just a buzz word. “What we had envisioned simply wasn’t possible with the Systems and Sensors we had to work with, at the time, despite all the articles and marketing materials we read,” adds Richard. “So, we focused on what we could do, HVAC, Security, and Systems Integration, and concentrated on delivering dependable and economical open systems and building system integrations.” Now, ten years later, IoT technology has caught up with the earlier vision allowing the Convergentz team to design even smarter buildings.
As a technology contractor, Convergentz has been able to understand the demands put on the traditional Construction Industry, as Owners demand more and more technology in their building environments. Not only Owners, but Engineers, General Contractors and Construction Managers have begun to see the value in working with a Technology Contractor, to guarantee their systems are designed and installed correctly. This requires making sure all related trades are working in harmony and the project integration works as the Owner desired, upfront. “What makes us unique is that we are also a Technology Contractor that understands HVAC and Mechanical Systems and the financial impact of their poor performance,” explains Richard. “We realize that there is no panacea for controls and automation. Especially, now that we are capable of complex systems that only stop where your imagination ends.”

With Convergentz’s capabilities as a Master System Integrator, it usually starts with giving the enduser a single pane of glass to control their facility. Once the construction chain understands the possibilities and realize Convergentz’s ability to listen and implement their needs. These needs can address everything from lights, shades, thermal comfort, health, safety/security systems, and more. They frequently work with the customer to produce a game plan to migrate them to where they want to be. On their Pennzoil Plaza project a couple of years ago, Convergentz worked with the Owner to understand his needs and then worked with the Engineer to translate what the Owner wanted into a workable project. “We ended up integrating the entire building by installing a fiber backbone into the building that handled the building’s HVAC, Security, LifeSafety, Access-Control, and Elevator systems. Also, the backbone was sized for the entire building-wide internet usage, including a Convergentz provided VoIP phone system and Digital Signage designed to create revenue for the building,” adds Richard.
As the steadfast leader, the market is finally catching up to what Convergentz has been offering for quite some time, and the company wants to continue to do what they are doing more efficiently and with even higher quality than they have in the past. The company is past the initial learning curves they fought through early on when they started Convergentz. “As a company, we will continue to grow in the areas of occupant health and safety,” says Richard. “With two of the strongest Building System Companies in our technology portfolio; Trane, which has transformed into Trane Technologies, and Distech Controls, Inc., Convergentz has the right offering for your application, no matter its size or complexity. At Convergentz, we’re looking forward to the future. The best is yet to come
